Sustainable Developmental Goal 7 (SDG 7) aspires to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. ‘Access to electricity’ in this graph is defined as the percentage of the population with access to electricity between 2008 and 2014. Among Commonwealth countries in Africa, over 98% of Mauritius’s population had access to electricity in 2014, while only 12% of Malawi’s population was in the same category. Access to electricity improved by 80% in Lesotho this period, the greatest among all the Commonwealth countries in Africa. On average, there was a 13% increase in the level of electricity access among Commonwealth countries in Africa over the six-year period. In 2014, on average 45.73% of the population had access to electricity in Commonwealth African countries.
